When are volunteers going?

Anytime between now until Election Day, November 4, 2008

What will volunteers do in swing states?

They will connect with the local Obama offices, get trained, and join efforts to register voters, persuade voters and get out the vote.

Where will volunteers stay?

Some may stay with family and friends, some may pay for their accommodations in a hotel or hostel, and others will be staying with other Obama supporters they meet through this website and through the local campaign offices in their destination cities.

Will volunteers be trained?

Volunteers may be trained in their home cities or in their destination cities. Any Obama office will have experienced people who can brief volunteers on messaging and how to approach voters.

If I sponsor a traveler, how can I know that he or she actually went?

You can stay in touch with the volunteer you sponsor by clicking on his or her "Contact Me" button. You can also keep track of his or her swing state volunteer efforts by periodically checking the profile page and reading updates.

Does ObamaTravel represent the Obama campaign?

No. While we are all committed to seeing Barack Obama become the next President of the United States of America, the website we built is not a direct effort of the Obama campaign. We are just a group of people who wanted to make it easier for more people to travel to key states to help Obama win.

If I sponsor a traveler is it an official campaign contribution?

No. If you sponsor a traveler, you are giving money directly to that individual. The money does not go to the Obama campaign, or to anyone at ObamaTravel.org.

Can I donate frequent flyer miles?

Sure. If you have enough frequent flier miles to purchase a ticket for a volunteer, you may choose to do that. Just get in touch with the volunteer through the "Contact Me" button, then contact the airline and ask about buying a ticket for a third party.

How do I reflect this contribution on my taxes?

Donations made to individuals on this website are not considered charitable donations and are not tax deductible. Donations in excess of $11,000 are subject to the IRS gift tax rules; inquire with your accountant or tax attorney if you have questions.
