MY STORY: I am so tired of the way this country has been driven into the ground. (both abroad and domestically). I have never felt the need to volunteer for a presidential campaign before, but I am really excited to be a part of obama''s movement for change. I am sick of negative politics, and i am really frustrated with politicians not focusing on the bigger picture. WHAT I NEED: I just received a FREE FLIGHT from a kind relative! That greatly reduces the cost of the trip, and increases my choices of destinations. I am considering going to Billings or Great Falls, a more conservative part of the state. So now I just need to be able to afford a motel, and a rental car, etc. The motel is the most important because I don't want to have to sleep in the car if I have the choice. My brother works for Enterprise Rental Cars so I only need $60 for 2 days of rental. Plus fuel which shouldn't be more than $50 unless we end up driving all over the place.

MY STORY: One of my first memories as a child was walking on a train track. My mother said there were trains coming with weapons and my mother and her friends were going to lie down on the tracks to stop the train. This is the type of environment I grew up in, my family was committed to change. When I was a bit older, I remember shaking Teddy Kennedy’s hand at a political convention in Seattle, Washington. My mother worked on Senator Kennedy’s presidential campaign and I remember how important I felt as I looked up at him and shook his hand. Regardless of the political passion of those that raised me, even through the Clinton years, that day I shook Teddy Kennedy’s hand was the last time I felt like I was important in the area of politics. The past eight years has been a rude awakening to what can become of a nation administered by Republicans. I am outraged by the fact that our country has spent, and is currently spending, over a billion dollars a month while my son spent his senior year of high school in a school that does not meet the lowest of educational standards. I am outraged at how the current administration has lead our country astray with its focus on the “enemies,” “terrorists” and warfare at the expense of thousands of lives and our nations international relationships. Meanwhile, failing to focus on the real threats to our country. I am horrified by how the current administration slaps the hands of corporate thugs who steel the life savings of working people while our jails and schools are full of the poor and uneducated. I am terrified about the environment that my child and my grandchildren will be left to live in if our government continues to ignore the immediate need to lower carbon emissions and work with the international community to reverse global warming. And I am struck into action by a fresh, authentic new leader whose passion, intelligence and grass roots efforts have inspired so many young people and people who had lost faith and hope in the political system.

MY STORY: My desire to participate in this campaign and specifically in New Mexico stems from my experiences as a student, educator, and organizer while studying at Stanford University and later as the local director of a non-government organization based in Iringa, Tanzania. While pursuing my pre-medical studies at Stanford, I also majored in Human Biology, focusing on under-served communities in the context of health care and educational access and quality. My studies and the interdisciplinary approach that guided them motivated me to learn through service in addition to coursework. In my second year, therefore, I began tutoring high school students who would be the first in their family to attend college. This initial commitment, in short time, put me in the position to begin coaching the first women's soccer program at the local charter school serving almost exclusively minority students from working and immigrant – Spanish speaking - families, teaching English to the parents and adults of the same under-served community, and facilitating patient - doctor communication as a Spanish language interpreter in the free community clinic. By my last year at Stanford, there was little doubt that I would forever be a service provider. Also during my last year at Stanford I was hired to become the representative for a nascent organization whose purpose would be to found a school for the young women of rural Tanzania. Not only were my skills working with students, parents, and school administration greatly refined, but during my time in Iringa I also gained experience working with local and national government bodies, professionals in architecture and school design, religious institutions, and other non-government organizations for collaboration in development projects. I have since returned to California and cannot think of a place that I would rather be than in New Mexico working for this wonderful campaign at this very important moment in our nation's history. My experiences are not only the source of my skill set but also my motivation for participation. Because of the time I have spent working with the underserved in California as well as abroad I have seen the need for change in education and health policy, foreign aide, immigration and a wealth of other issues. I would like to join in, but the plane fare is a barrier for me (as I work in a very small community center in a rural part of upstate New York.) WHAT I NEED: After an amazing first week here I have hit a slight bump in the road. This morning my car had trouble starting and I am going to need a little extra support to get it looked into. Since I use my car to drive the 20 minutes to and from the office every morning I am worried that I may need some sort of contingency plan. As of this moment I don't know if that will mean renting a car for the rest of my trip here or some additional support to cover the repairs (as of know the estimate for the repairs is about $400) but the mechanic only looked at the car in the lot outside the office and after I take it into his shop I will update everyone as I know more specifics. The funds that I had previously raised were enough to assist with travel costs (mainly gas to and from NM and back and forth between the Anthony and Las Cruces offices) and one month's living expenses. I will be staying with a generous host in Las Cruces so my lodging costs are covered but I do need to pay for groceries and keep up on the bills for the month I am gone. MY STORY: The forthcoming November 4 general election is so important. And I have the time and energy so, I've got to go and do what I can. After graduating from UC San Diego in June, I have been working at Casa Cornelia Law Center, a non-profit law office that serves the needs of indigent immigrants seeking political asylum in the United States. Around September, when I took time off work to study for the LSAT, the Southwestern New Mexico regional director for Obama's campaign asked me to join him as his Assistant Field Organizer - organizing phone banks, neighborhood canvassing, Get Out The Vote events, working 7 days a week until the polls close at 8 PM Tuesday November 4. MY STORY: First off, I would like to introduce myself. I'm a 28 year college student from San Antonio, Texas. In 2004, I volunteered locally with the democratic party in San Antonio, but due to the outcome of what I perceived as the most important election of my life I became extremely jaded and lost hope within politics. I removed myself from the political sphere for several years. However, the emergence of Barack Obama has drawn me back with a vengeance and I am extremely fired up and ready to fight for the change we need and to do whatever I can in order to get Senator Obama into the White House. This past weekend, myself and a group of students from San Antonio took a 12 hour bus trip to Las Cruces, NM in order to do what we could and help the local office. We spent the weekend rallying people at local events for Joe Biden and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. More importantly we spent a good deal of the weekend reaching out to the voters of Las Cruces and sharing our enthusiasm for Senator Obama in an effort to get out the vote. We shared stories of how the Senator has inspired us to the point we were willing to spend hours on a cramped bus and then spend hours walking neighborhoods in the NM sun in order to do whatever it is we could to secure a future for this country that is a departure from the last 8 years. It was a great experience in which I feel everyone of our volunteers left feeling as though they made a measurable mark upon the voters of Las Cruces, NM. This weekend I will be making a trip to Ohio to replicate the experience and once again reach out to voters in an extremely important swing state. It’s an essential battleground state and we are needed there. I’ve attended Camp O and I am a Deputy Field Organizer and know that I can be of use for the get out the vote push….but I need your help getting there. Give as much or as little as you can…just know that what you give may make the difference in the direction of our country. MY STORY: Hello fellow Obama supporters, My name in Kyra Beckmann and I graduated in May 2008 from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, where I majored in American Studies with a concentration in Media and Culture Studies. Everything I learned at school is being applied to my efforts with the Obama campaign in Columbus, Ohio. While here, I volunteer 7 days a week doing phone banking, data entry, and canvassing. I enjoy canvassing most for, I believe that speaking to individuals one-on-one has the greatest impact for change in this upcoming election.
